Malaysia, currently heavily reliant on fossil fuels for its primary energy supply, needs to swiftly transition to a high renewable energy system to fulfill its climate action commitment under the Paris Agreement. This paper revisits a carbon-free energy roadmap from 2015 and highlights its continued relevance while identifying gaps, particularly related to recent data and technological advancements. The study suggests potential research directions to bridge these gaps and assist Malaysia in developing a roadmap toward a high-renewable, net-zero power generation system.
