The article assesses the medium-term climate ambitions of ASEAN Member States (AMS) through their updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), identifying varying levels of progress and recommending stronger economy-wide targets, improved clarity on sector-scale implementation, and exploration of expanded target coverage to align with Paris Agreement goals, highlighting Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar as having strengthened targets and consolidated actions, while Brunei, Singapore, and Vietnam show efforts with remaining ambition gaps, and Malaysia and the Philippines enhance economy-wide targets with room for improved sector-scale implementation clarity, and Indonesia and Thailand need to consider including more details for international support in future NDCs.
