Throughout 2021, the recovery of the electricity sector was challenged by the volatility of global fuel prices and unstable supply, prompting ASEAN to be
cautious. Nevertheless, the ASEAN countries were gearing up new power development plans and shifting to lower carbon alternatives. In the electricity sector, partnerships, expanded to safeguard regional energy security and to absorb a higher share of renewable energy. ASEAN is also actively digitalising the electricity sector to foster the adoption of emerging technologies and renewable energy.
