Monash Business School and ACCEPT II seek for a potential collaboration

Jakarta, 21 March 2023

  • Prof. Paresh Narayan from Monash Business School visited the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) office on 21 March 2023 to identify potential research collaborations with ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project Phase II (ACCEPT II) team.
  • The ACCEPT team was represented by Beni Suryadi (Project Manager), Aldilla Rakhiemah (Senior Researcher), Muhammad Shidiq (Senior Researcher) and I Dewa Made Raditya (Researcher).

In this meeting, Prof. Narayan explained how the Monash Business School has built extensive collaboration with numerous stakeholders related to energy-climate issues. One of them through Pacific Action for Climate Transitions (PACT) project in collaboration with Fiji National University. This project aims to improve economic resilience and community wellbeing in response to climate change in the South Pacific. Besides, Monash Business School also collaborated with ADBI in developing Energy Security Index in Asia Pacific.

Prof. Narayan (Monash Business School) and ACCEPT II team during the discussion at ACE Office.

Through the extensive research experience in the energy-climate along with its related snowballed effects, Prof. Narayan would like to build a new collaboration with ACE to monitor how the decarbonization plan in ASEAN or even Asia Pacific has progressed. One of the ideas is constructing an index for decarbonization by countries and starting by the ASEAN. This index can send a message on how every country has progressed. This index hopefully can be optimized as a basis for academics and policymakers to help them identify the issues in mitigating climate change. Therefore, this index will be built with transparency, and also be updated regularly so that all parties can participate in monitoring progress.

Mr. Suryadi expressed his optimism in this project and emphasized how collaborative activities are critical to addressing energy-climate related issues. Therefore, ACCEPT II project is open to any kind of constructive collaboration, exchanging knowledge and resources to help achieve a better and sustainable future.

Moving forward, all parties are looking forward to discussing further details regarding the collaboration agreement. Also, Prof. Narayan are open to invite ACE to visit the PACT project in Fiji in the future.
