ASEAN-German Energy Programme (AGEP)

Implemented by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the ASEAN-German Energy Programme (AGEP) aims to strengthen the strategic role of ACE as a regional competence centre of excellence for sustainable energy. After concluding its first phase in June 2019, which aimed to promote regional cooperation and deployment of RE and EE&C in ASEAN, AGEP is currently on its second phase which carry some activities as follows:

• Develop the 6th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO6)
• Develop RE Nodal Network Framework on R&D
• Develop Regional Workshop on EE Financing
• Develop ACE Internal Guideline and Competencies on Data Processing
• Develop External ASEAN Statistical Guideline and Competencies on Energy Pricing
• Support ACE in Organisational Development (Business Plan and Capacity Building).

Collaboration on ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO)

The 6th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO6) is a flagship publication of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and one of the priority publications that is acknowledged by the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM). GIZ through the collaborative partnership with ACE has supported the ASEAN Member States on the development of the AEO since the 4 th edition in 2014. The development of the AEO reflects the relevance of ACE’s effort to fulfil its function as a regional centre of excellence that builds a coherent, coordinated, focused and robust energy policy agenda and strategy for ASEAN. In the period of AGEP Phase II, GIZ will support ACE in the development of the 6th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO6). The AEO6 is expected to be the main source of energy information, analysis and projections in the region, providing deep and cohesive insights about the trends in energy supply and consumption, both at regional and national levels. The energy outlook will show the impact in socio-economic development and environment in relation to the effort for enhancing energy connectivity and market integration in the region to achieve energy security, accessibility, affordability and sustainability for all. In addition to that, analysis at regional level is tailored with the context of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) towards a highly integrated and cohesive economy that is designed for a free flow of goods, people and investment. Furthermore, key recommendations are also available in the AEO6 to lay out the practical solutions and policy recommendations in relation with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7.

Collaboration on ASEAN Energy Database System (AEDS)

The ASEAN Energy Database System (AEDS) at https://aeds.aseanenergy.org/, contains official ASEAN statistic data and related energy news and policies to help the readers in understanding the energy landscape of ASEAN and each of its Member States. AEDS is developed and maintained by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). Since 2018, improvement of AEDS for data collection and processing, has been supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the ASEAN-German Energy Programme (AGEP).

In addition to the data and information on energy that was collected and generated by AEDS, starting 2019, ACCEPT provides specific data and information on energy-climate change nexus as the reference so that the policy makers (or any stake holders) can build or design their policy and plan in comprehensive manner understanding the linkage between energy and climate change.

ACCEPT also complements AEDS by providing the collection of energy-climate change news in ASEAN Energy News Clippings that is circulated regularly every week to thousands of stakeholders on energy and climate change sectors in ASEAN and beyond.
