An Energy Sector Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions for Lao PDR

Description

ACE through ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project phase II (ACCEPT II) has set a work plan not only to work on regional model but also on national model to do a projection on low carbon economy towards net zero target of a country. In addition, an analysis of energy supply and demand of a country level by considering the country net zero target is also crucial to be conducted. Since Lao PDR will hold an important role as the next ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024, Lao PDR would be the first representative of ASEAN Member States to be involved in the country-level low carbon economy model. Therefore, a joint study on “An Energy Sector Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions” is being jointly conducted between the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) of Lao PDR with technical support from Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI).

The study is supported under ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project Phase II (ACCEPT II). The study will analyze the urgency of net zero modeling of a country level to understand the country analysis on achieving its net zero target in future. For a country perspective, it will provide an analysis of roadmap to achieve country net zero emissions target in future. Where it will benefit the country as input on designing policy to achieve net zero emissions. As a part of the joint study to verify the data and early findings as well as to attain a comprehensive goal on knowledge sharing in climate-energy nexus between the ASEAN countries, it is necessary to conduct a country-level workshop of the study. The workshop may help the country to unlock new competencies of technical skill on energy-climate modeling, data validation, and establishing cutting-edge strategies in achieving the country’s net zero target by 2050.
