Manila, 5th October 2026 – Continuing its effort to strengthen research in the energy-climate nexus, the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT) Phase II served as the Academic Partner of the 6th ASEAN International Conference on Energy and Environment (6th AICEE) 2026. The conference, organised by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) during the ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2026 (AEBF-26), took place on 5 October 2026 in Manila, the Philippines.

Through this partnership, ACCEPT II supported researchers whose work aligns with the regional priorities under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030, particularly the energy-climate nexus, Gender Equality, disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), and the Just and Inclusive Energy Transition (JIET). Six authors received scholarship support from ACCEPT II to present their extended abstract at the conference. After the conference, ACCEPT II will continue working with the awardees to enhance their extended abstracts for the 6th AICEE Proceedings Book.

Six scholarship grantees presented at the conference, with research spanning ASEAN Power Grid governance and equity, coal phase-down pathways, subnational just transition planning, climate resilience in energy infrastructure, and the impact of rising data-centre demand on renewable energy targets. Their papers, presented under programme areas including Clean Coal Transformation (CCTR) and Regional Energy Policy and Planning (REPP), were:

  1. Who Benefits from the ASEAN Power Grid? An Integrated Assessment of Carbon Benefits, Energy Justice, and Equitable Benefit-Sharing in the LTMS-PIP by K. Boonyasana, from Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, A. Phonvisay from the National University of Laos, and J. Kluabwang from Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna;
  1. From Regional Electricity Integration to Just Energy Transition: Assessing ASEAN Power Grid Governance for an Inclusive Renewable Electricity Market by Maudy Noor Fadhlia from Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia;
  1. Pathways for Coal Phase-Down in Southeast Asia: A Comparative Scenario Analysis of Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines to 2060 by Huy Phung Quoc from Ton Duc Thang University, Viet Nam;
  1. Mapping Provincial Just Energy Transition Pathways in Indonesia: Integrating Coal Vulnerability, Renewable Energy, and CCS Suitability by Azaria Haykal Ahmad from Youth for Energy Southeast Asia, Indonesia;
  1. Bridging the Kinetic-Resilience Gap: Integrating Climate Resilience into Regional Energy Policy and Planning – The 2025 Aceh Flash Floods Case Study by Olgavian Ade Saputra from PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia; and
  1. Contracted, Connected or Consumed? Malaysia’s Data-Centre Electricity Demand and the Arithmetic of Renewable-Capacity Targets by Xiang Wen Cheng from Kyoto University, Japan. Xiang Wen Cheng received the Best Presentation Award for the presentation of this paper.

By supporting researchers from diverse institutions, including universities, government institutions, utilities, and youth organisations across the region, ACCEPT II reaffirmed its commitment to cross-sectoral knowledge exchange on the energy–climate nexus to move towards a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and more inclusive energy future.
