As a knowledge hub and think-thank platform, ACCEPT II is actively promoting knowledge-sharing on the energy-climate nexus in ASEAN. In line with this mission, ACCEPT II is proud to serve as the Academic Partner of the 4th ASEAN International Conference on Energy and Environment (AICEE), organised annually by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) in conjunction with the ASEAN Energy Business Forum of 2024 (AEBF-2024) held on 25 September 2024, in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

Since its establishment in 2020, AICEE has emerged as a pivotal research platform for fostering discussions on interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral issues to advance ASEAN’s energy landscape. AICEE is also providing a wide range of researchers to collaborate in the energy and environment sector in ASEAN.

Aldilla Rakhiemah, Senior Research Analyst, was also involved as the chair of the session “Carbon Pricing and Green Investment”. This session mainly discussed the progress of carbon pricing regulation and insights in ASEAN, as well as its contribution to support potential green investment in the region. The topic was participated by five authors from various academic and research institutions.

In addition to its academic collaboration, ACCEPT is also delighted to provide support in the form of a scholarship to researchers whose works align with ACCEPT’s goals. This initiative aims to address regional challenges related to energy security, climate change, and sustainable development, as well as support innovative research on energy-climate issues within ASEAN. Recipients of this scholarship will receive funding to attend the conference in Vientiane, Lao PDR and the opportunity to submit their work to the IOP Conference Series for publication.

Under the 4th AICEE theme of   ACCEPT will collaborate with the selected authors who have presented their abstracts, working together on the development of the paper and supporting its publication in the IOP:

  • Legal Framework for Carbon Pricing in Vietnam: A Comparative Study with the US and Japan by Nguyen Hai Yen
  • Transaction costs of Indonesia’s Just Energy Transition Partnership by Thant Thura Zan
  • Examining Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion Integration in the Cirebon Energy Transition Mechanism Pilot Project: A Case Study by Aditya Barus
  • Optimal Portfolio of Economic Policies for Climate Change Mitigaton: A Focus on the Energy Sector by Ahmad Shabirin

By supporting these researchers, ACCEPT remains committed to advancing knowledge dissemination and providing a platform where policymakers can engage with critical insights and evidence-based solutions within ASEAN’s energy-climate nexus. The collaborative cooperation between ACCEPT II and the 4th AICEE also illustrates their joint effort in fostering cross-sectoral knowledge exchange among academics, practitioners, and key stakeholders, paving the way for a resilient energy security and transition in ASEAN.

Furthermore, aligning with Lao PDR’s Chairmanship theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience”, ACCEPT will continuously support the implementation effort for the region to move towards net zero, by not only providing capacity buildings but also facilitating research and development programmes within the region.
