Synergies and Efficiencies in Regional Energy and Resource Management Collaboration – Lessons From the Nordics

Jakarta, 29 October 2020

As each of the countries in Southeast Asia (SEA) is addressing similar national challenges related to waste/resource management and decarbonisation, the focus on regional cooperation is getting more relevant.

The Nordic region has developed and deployed sustainability solutions and policies for decades. With experience in cross-border energy collaboration, waste handling, and circular economy, the Nordic countries also work together to improve energy security and provide functioning energy and resource regulatory frameworks.

Held on 29 October 2020, on the occasion of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2020, Nordic Green Conference 2020 was organised. The participants were invited to learn how Nordic experiences in regional energy collaboration can support addressing challenges in Southeast Asia through an exchange of ideas and concepts, technologies and policies by companies, research communities, and government.

The conference also examined long-term strategies and short-term problem statements related to resource management and decarbonisation of urban regions in SEA. The objective of the event was to present Nordic solutions and to facilitate dialogues on cooperation between Nordic and SEA stakeholders on technology development and deployment, business opportunities, research, and development.

Beni Suryadi, the ACCEPT Project Manager, was participated as one of the speakers at Session 2: Electricity System Integration. This session addressed regional electricity integration, with cases from the Nordic electricity system integration, the importance of interconnected energy infrastructures for the deployment of renewable energy, and discuss prospects for the regional energy systems in SEA.
